Mindfulness Approaches in the workplace

Mindfulness has a lot to offer the workplace. The Mindfulness All Party Parliamentary Group has produced a report documenting the potential benefits of Mindfulness Approaches within the workplace: Building the Case for Mindfulness in the Workplace.

A recent review of the scientific literature concludes that mindfulness is connected with improvements in three key areas: Wellbeing, Relationships, and Performance resulting in:

  • Happier, more effective workplaces.

  • Increased connections in parts of the brain associated with attention, learning, and memory

  • Reductions in stress, worry anxiety, and depression

  • Higher levels of resilience - reduced rates of burnout

  • Better physical health = reduced staff absenteeism and turnover

  • Increased well-being and work satisfaction= reduced staff absenteeism and turnover

  • Increased awareness of self and others

  • Less conflict and improved employee relations

The Mindful Choice offers:

Taster Sessions. Tailor-made session designed to provide an introduction to mindfulness. During the taster, you will learn what mindfulness’ is’ and what ‘it is not’. The benefits of mindfulness will be introduced and there and participants will be invited to practice short guided sessions which can be used to enhance day-to-day life. On the basis of the introduction attendees can decide if they would like to commit to a longer course or programme.

Half-Day or Full-Day Tailor-Made Workshops. This enables attendees to gain more experience in mindfulness. There will be the opportunity to discuss mindfulness in more depth and explore various practices that can be integrated at work and at home. Some of the science behind mindfulness will be explored along with the latest research and applications to needs, interests of organisations and staff.

Evidence-Based 8-Week Programme: Invest in long-term results.

The training consists of 8 x (90-120 minute) sessions which can be taken on a weekly basis (or condensed into 4 half days scheduled fortnightly).

Participants will learn how to set up mindfulness practice and will be given mindful techniques to use to support well-being, focus, and self care at home and in the workplace.

Some of the themes explored on the 8-week course include:

  • Stay focused on tasks and live in the present

  • Develop focus and clarity. Learn how to calm the busy and scattered mind

  • Managing stressors, overload, and difficult emotions

  • Increase engagement and satisfaction at work

  • Improve relationships and enhance listening and communication skills

  • Living a balanced life with optimal performance stress- levels

At the end of the course, each participant will have a good working knowledge of mindfulness, a workbook, audio practices, and resources to support continuing practice and enhanced efficiency and well-being.
